TELEPHONE SERVICE IN ZANZIBAR
There are a number of hotels in the Arusha Area with phone service. International access when dialing from abroad is COUNTRY CODE 255 and CITY CODE 24. If calling from within East Africa, you should omit the country code and dial 007 followed by 24. If calling from elsewhere in Tanzania, add a 0 before the city code. Some businesses and people in Zanzibar have cellular service. There are currently several companies operating in Zanzibar. To call someone with mobile service, the CITY CODE is 074x, depending on the service they subscribe to. International callers use the COUNTRY CODE 255 and drop the '0' before the CITY CODE.
IMPORTANT: Telephone service in Africa, especially calls to international locations are very expensive.
MOBILE PHONE SERVICE
Tanzaina's mobile phone service is GSM compatible and international roaming is available in many areas. You should note that it is not generally available in all of the east coast beach areas.
INTERNET
There are a number of Internet Cafes in town. Hotels also may offer Internet service in their business centre.
POST
The postal service from Zanzibar is slow and not reliable. Valuables should never be sent by post.
